What is Type 2 diabetes?

Type 2 diabetes happens when the body can't effectively manage the energy from the food we consume, leading to consistently high blood sugar levels. This imbalance can result from insulin resistance, insufficient insulin production, or both.

What is Prediabetes?

Prediabetes occurs when the body shows early signs of trouble managing blood sugar, with markers like A1C, fasting glucose, and insulin beginning to rise. Levels are higher than normal but not yet high enough to meet the criteria for a Type 2 diabetes diagnosis.

What is insulin resistance?

Insulin resistance happens when the body’s cells stop responding to insulin, the hormone that helps store energy from blood sugar. As cells become full, extra glucose is stored as fat, raising insulin levels over time and increasing the risk of weight gain, inflammation, and Type 2 diabetes.

What about genetics?

Genetics can influence your risk for Type 2 diabetes, but lifestyle choices have a much greater impact. Even with the same DNA, healthier habits like good nutrition and regular activity can help prevent chronic conditions and support a longer, healthier life.
